About Republic Square Park

When the original City of Austin plan was laid out in the 1830’s, it was the goal of city founders to create public spaces where residents could gather but over these ideas fell by the wayside as Republic Square served as a parking lot for many years.

Thankfully, by 1976 the City of Austin chose to get Austin back on track with the original goal of city founders because the area that now is Republic Square was being used as a parking lot at that time.

Following renovations, the area that we now know as Republic Square was created and Austin residents have been able to enjoy live events, music, farmers markets and more here for many years.

What’s Happening at Republic Square Park?

As always, Republic Square remains a busy place with plenty of things to do on a weekly basis including annual events like the recent HAAM Day which was held this week, live music, outdoor movies, SFC farmers market, food and drink festivals and of course yoga in the park.
